you can tie me down, and bloody me up And the fields are turning And the temperature's a rising I see the factories are burning When the wheels keep a turning
Well I've seen that you've grown now With the horses you ride Gonna have your say now See the new moon rising
Oh, she don't mind, she got the time I see the new moon rising Oh, she dont' mind, she got the time I see the new moon rising
Rafael Quint jerked away, having forgotten that the earbuds of his best, or former best, friend's iPod were still in his ears. He yawned, grimacing at the song, eyes glancing around the forest behind the cemetary where he was stuck. He was a whole town away, his mother had to be worried. She always was; he was never home to sleep, anyways.
He sighed, pressing pause on Brooke's iPod, tugging the earbuds out of his ears and glancing around. There was a blue glow to the night around him. "Damn. Did I sleep that long?" He wondered, pushing himself up. He earth was damp around him, and he glanced around at all the hedgestones with a sigh. There was a pack commune tonight, his scar was tingling. The scar that Aiden had given him for sneaking into the last commune. Except there was another commune after that he snuck into...and he hadn't got caught.
"Huh," was all he muttered as scratched his head, messing up his hair - which he had grown out again - even more. He pushed himself up, using one of the large hedgestones to steady himself, sticking the borrowed iPod into his pocket and pulling his shirt and jeans off. Glancing around, Rafe ran, barefoot, to the edge of the cemetary. Speeding up his run, he lunged over the fence of the cemetary.
Skin splitting, fur shedding. Rafe landed, brown, lean, and thin, in wolf form on the other edge of the gate. He was in Concord, he just needed to find the gathering place. His ears twitched and he closed his brown eyes, listening carefully, inhaling the scents of the night.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Be careful of the curse that falls on young lovers Starts so soft and sweet and turns them to hunters
Thea Niyol growled in displeasure as a chorus of howls sounded outside her bedroom window. She stared up at the white ceiling before sliding down to the white walls and then the pale carpet. Everything was so, white. It made her naseous. She would have to talk to her mother about redoing the place. Her blood hummed as she sauntered over to the bay window over looking the backyard and the trees beyond. The moon was beginning her ascent into the indigo sky.
"Lady Thedosia come on, its time to hunt!!" a gruff voice called out from where he sat along the picnic table. The fine hairs on the back of her neck bristled in agitation.
"Shut up Willem!" she snarled baring her teeth not that he could see from where he sat. She sighed, shaking her tawny hair out from her braids, green eyes glancing over at the picture sitting on her desk. A smaller golden haired child was sitting on the shoulders of a big gray wolf who's mouth was open in laughter. Seven years. God its been 7 years since you left Papa. she murmured silently, the blue moon casting strange shadows on her golden skin.
"Thea, it's time to get ready. You will be participating in the dance tonight?" Her younger sister, Elizibetta called from the door way. She was already dressed in simple jeans and a loose fitting red t-shirt. Thea smiled slightly. By the time the next Ordeal would roll around, Liza would be old enough to compete in the Bitche's Dance for the right to be Alpha female. It made her heart ache slightly at the thought of the bloodshed and carnage that could happen tonight.
"Okay, come help me pick out what to wear?" she questioned, laughing softly at her younger sisters delight and the young she-wolf barging through her room to attack her wardrobe. Elizabetta wasn't her biological sister, she was simply another stray that her mother had picked up while helping Aunt Sisecela and Elizabetta's mother had died from a silver gunshot wound to the heart and they had arrived too late.
"This one." the twelve year olds voice knocked Thea out of her musings. The redhead was holding up a thin mostly loose fitting white eyelet lace summer dress. Thea nodded slightly and her sister beamed setting it down on Thea's bed before retreating out of the room to go bug Aiden.
She sighed, unzipping her shorts and wriggling out of her shirt before dragging the shirt over her head. I wonder, how are we going to have an ordeal when most of the men in the pack are under 21. Thank the moon Rafe isn't going to be there. After all should I get dragged into the dance and win...everything will have to stop.. she whimpered slightly collapsing onto her bed and curling into a small ball.
"Oi, Thea come on we gotta go." Her fingers clenched slightly. The one person in the house she never wanted to see again. Of course he has to be the one knocking at her door.
"Fuck off Aiden." she snarled at the door, jumping up from her bed and pacing towards her window. If he didn't leave she would jump. He knew better than to boss her around...or come near her for that fact. She could hear Elizabetta's snickers and Christine's slapping her son over the head with a paper fan.
"See you at the meeting." Liza called as they trumped down the stairs to join Uncle Rudy and Willem before taking off into the night.
It was after they were long gone that she made her own way out, the difficult way of course sliding down the drain pipe and landing on all fours in the backyard, before running in the direction of the festivities.
A man who's pure of heart and says his prayers by night May still become a wolf when the autumn moon is bright
The place in a sense was beautiful. It was an old ruined bagoda of some sort or maybe a ritual place of witches past. But now, with the moon casting its magick over the clearing, it was the perfect place to hold their passing of leadership brawl. Thea's other half whined at behind hidden within mortal skin pacing in the recesses of her mind. Soon.. she murmured, looking around at that throng of wolves. Some she recgonized. What was left of her pack. Most of the pack's older members had been gunned down or killed during terretorial disputes with the other pack that resided in Salem. But there was one face she was not looking forward to seeing. She growled low in her throat from where she sat on top of a pillar as even her human nose caught the scent of the current pack leader. Tall, dark and brooding with ice colored eyes. Gabriel Van Aren was the only person in this world Thea hated more than her older brother. And by the set of Aiden's shoulders it seemed she wasn't alone. Her scars burned beneath the fabric of her dress. While they were Aiden's doing, they where Gabriel's fault. Ruthless, and bloodthirsty he had basically ran the pack into the ground with his stupid fights. And even his own brother couldn't stop him at the last ordeal Thea had attended. "Theodosia..how delightful to see you in the Full Moon light for the first time since Hallow's Eve." his voice was gruff with the beginning of the change and his ice blue eyes shifted gold as he reached a hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear cupping her cheek. "You will participate in the Dance tonight yes?" he asked. Thea snarled, jerking away. "Only if you lose." she muttered, green eyes flashing in discontempt.[/blockquote] it seems you've set me running free[/blockquote]

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe's ears flicked, opening his brown eyes. It wasn't hard to center in on the noise just south of where he was. Plus, it wasn't hard to hear the distant howling starting up.
God. He hated packs. Only reason he was in one was to keep his temper in check. It was easy for him to lose control; and damn he hated losing control. After Brooke...and Aiden having to save her, Rafe shook out his pelt, shedding away those memories. Tonight wasn't the night to focus on the bad, though what was ahead was probably just as bad. The commune....the Bitches Dance. He was so screwed; and if Aiden found him.
Rafe sighed, taking off at a sprint, not wasting any second to get where he was going. He flattened his ears back and held his tail straight, gaining speed. He let out a sigh as the wind beat against his pelt, and the trees sped by. He had no clue what he was doing, or why. He had always been a loner, he didn't quite understand the ways of the pack.
Rafe sighed, pricking his ears as he circled the place of the gathering, wrinkling his nose at the different wolf-scents. He slashed his tail, grunting his distate. Slowing down slightly, he pressed down next to the hollow of a tree, lying on his stomach and blinking brown eyes at the bogoda and the people surrounding it. He didn't dare change to human form.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Thea growled, smacking Gabriel's hand away before jumping off of her perch to go find her sister. There were so many strangers here, and it was making it hard to keep her mind clear. The smell of sweat and sex was already beginning to make its entrance. And she knew it could only get worse as the night wore on. She whimpered slightly, joining her mother and a few other females.
"Ah Thea there you are. You're still dressed geesh you'll stand out like a sore thumb." one of Christine's friends murmured giggling goodnaturedly. Thea blinked, her green eyes confused before realizing that most of the wolves in the clearing were either half dressed, fully phased, or at least half of either one.
There was a hush closing in around the clearing and a few she-wolves squeaked as their mates grabbed them for a pre-battle snog. She sighed glancing at her mother who was staring at the ground, obviously wishing her husband was still here. Aunt Siscelia was standing in the middle looking as old as usual, leaning on a staff at least twice her height. The ceremony was starting.
"Thea, theres..something.." Christine blinked studying Thea's neck before shaking her head with a smile. "Nevermind, go find the Five or something, Theres a good spot over there near the trees by your sister. " she murmured before disappearing into the crowd.
The younger she-wolf blinked, feeling almost sorry for her mother. In a way she was curious if her mother would join the dance but unless another female attacked her first, she knew her mother was staying out of it. Elizabetta waved from where she was sitting, patting the log next to her. Sighing and plastering a slight smile on her face she went to join the group of preteens while her wolf side whined in irritation, begging to run. it seems you've set me running free[/blockquote]

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe flattened his ears, then pricked them, repeating that a few times. His nerves were working up, and laying here wasn't helping. Rafe grunted, pushing himself to his paws and straining his neck out of his hiding place, sniffing and studying the scene before him.
He could make out a few scents he knew. One or two of his pack members. A lot of the Bucharest Pack members; Aiden's scent was the easiest to pick out. And of course Aiden's scent screamed hot anger. He wrinkled his nose. Why the heck was he paying attention to Aiden's scent? He didn't love the guy. Rafe narrowed his brown eyes, glancing around. He blinked, recognizing a dark-haired woman. Thea's mother...hm. I wish I knew how these things worked, he sighed.
Rafe grunted, backing out of his hiding place and padding back into a circle, carefully making his way down the hill of the area he had been hiding in, jumping down to land at the bottom agilely. He sniffed, checking for Aiden's scent. Before closing his eyes and pricking his ears, inhaling. It was so easier to find people if he could concentrate, and god...it was hard in this situation.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Dark green eyes darted around the clearing curiously, though in irritation she grew out her claws to dig into the wood of her seat. Elizabetta had disappeared into the throng of fur heading to the opposite end of the clearing, no longer interested in watching old men fight to the death. She glanced over her shoulder curiously at the sound of a giggle watching Finn disappear into the brush with one of the stray girls. Huh, Finn give up the chance to join the Ordeal for a girl. Who would've thought.
But as she glanced around she realized that she was the only one not in a pair or a group and it made her stomach hurt. I wonder what Rafes doing.. too bad she couldn't call him. She'd left her cell at home plus she wasn't ready to join the 'festivities' in her fur yet. She blinked watching her mother help Aunt Siscelia begin the Ordeal, stating out the rules.
"But this year, so few of our men made it to 21 and there are not enough strangers to make this an even fight. So we will extend the ordeal to those of ten and eight"
"Which is eighteen for those of you who can't count." Uncle Rudy shouted earning a chuckle across the clearing. Though Aunt Siscelia glared at him.
"I will recite the Law. When a leader dies by the teeth of a wolf, then the challenger leads the pack. When a leader dies by the teeth of fate, then Ordeal is called, for only the swift and strong may lead. All willing adults may stand and fight, and fight they will while they stand. But when the first drop of his blood is shed, a fighter must tand aside. The final pair may fight to the death ir neither will yield till he's died. So speaks the law."
"Brothers, pay your respects to the Moon." Rudy called. -Blood and Chocolate, annette curtis klause, page 137.
"But wait! Why is the Ordeal called when Gabriel still lives?" a voice cried out in outrage and there was a murmuring among the crowd.
Gabriels eyes glittered as he removed his tanktop. "Because, my mate has died, and there have been...complaints of my leadership." his eyes roamed over the grouping landing on Aiden before sliding to Thea.
~Meanwhile~
Elizabetta sighed, her reddish fur standing out in the pale light. She whined in her throat. The scent she had been tailing had disappeared. She cocked her head, ears pricked forward before running off after it. The scent that was soaked into her sisters skin. She growled jumping forward trying to catch up. it seems you've set me running free[/blockquote]

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe blinked his eyes open, nostrils flaring. He recognized Thea's scent. His ears swiveled about, tilting his head up towards the cliffside he had just descended. Great. Why the hell is a pup following me? As if I need a blabbermouth to reveal I'm here! Aiden wouldn't waste a second clawing my fur off! Grumbling in his wolfy language, Rafe trotted off. He'd let the pup follow, he was bound to get in trouble anyways.
Ears swiveling, a nasty nervous habit he head, Rafe picked up on Siscelia's intructions for the fight. He never really did understand ordeals...well, he didn't understand packs at all. A loner thing, growing up with his mom and learning to take care of her, himself, and Brooke. It was his way to survive. Those were the three people who mattered, though he'd put his life in danger for the other two. Even for Thea, but he'd never hear the end of it if he saved her from something she could have handled.
Rafe's pawsteps were light and feathery, quiet. He weaved in and out of the crowd, listening to Siscelia, stopping as he caught sight of the old woman. Rafe crouched down slightly, cocking his head to one side as a man from the crowd blurted out a complaint...something about a Gabriel. Curiously, Rafe inhaled, catching this man's scent, and his head whipped over to Aiden, then to the golden-eyed fiend who was glaring at Aiden.
Huh, he mused. Aiden had competition? Rafe's ears flicked as he pushed himself onto his paws, pushing to the front of the crowd to get a better look. Studying this Gabriel, he narrowed his eyes, which flickered back over to Aiden. Out of the two of them, I'm on Aiden's side, Rafe decided gruffly, sending a glare to Gabriel before backing out of the crowd again. If he stayed here too long, he'd get caught. Rafe turned tail, heading back towards the back of the crowd, padding, skimming the edge of the crowd, not sure where he was going or what he was doing.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Thea bristled, but eased back as the crowd silenced, but they hummed with anticaption of blood shed. Males who were preparing to fight shed the rest of their clothes, making their way into a line. Finn was still preoccupied with his 'friend' to have heard the new rules but most of the 5 had joined in. Willem stood beside his father, tall and blonde Gregor a few people down, Ash beside him. Ulf was still too young and was obviously complaining about it to his mother who quickly shushed him. Of course there was Gabriel. A head taller than the majority of them while Aiden stood on the opposite end, pressing a kiss to his mothers head as she made her way down the line with the drink that would give all of them strength.
Despite how much she disliked her brother, Thea couldn't help but worry. Speaking of siblings, where was Liza. She blinked standing up to pace in a circle before yanking her dress over her head. The entire pack howled and she joined in though her voice sounded awkward with them. Her blood hummed and her bones cracked as fur sprouted.
There was the ritual banter like usual. Gabriel running after Ash and swiping his claws across his shoulder and drawing first blood. The young pup made a disgruntled sound but stepped aside. A few of them were herding others, simply playing. And then the entire clearing erupted into a spiraling mass of fur.
You realize I can hear you right? Liza wondered. It's not surprising you're on Aiden's side, after what he did to Thea. Killing her dad in front of her and all.

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe sighed, glancing over his shoulder at the fighting, flicking his ears in annoyance at the voice in his head. Giving up, he sat down shaking out his chocolate-colored pelt and watched the fighting.
Pup, I know you can hear me. And I don't care, I talk to myself all the time, he retorted, not toning down the annoyance of being followed, but not sounding mean or anything, either. Not that it'd get rid of this she-wolf, as far as Rafe could tell from the tone of her voice in his head. I don't know much about Thea's father, we don't talk about that. I know what Aiden did to her and her home, that's it as far as history goes. I'm on Aiden's side because of the look that Gabriel dude gave him and Thea...and how he carries himself, I don't like it. I'd go give him soemthing to talk about, but I don't know how ordeals work. He admitted.
He stood up again, too antsy to sit down, shaking his pelt out. God, it was like he had too much coffee. He was usually a bum, lazy. And also, he never said more than a few sentences in his head. Who was this girl he was talking to, anyways, and why was he talking back? She seemed familiar...but unless he got a whiff of her scent, he wouldn't know her, having never really heard her voice.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Liza snorted, rubbing her paw over the bridge of her nose. I'm Elizabetta Niyol, Thea's ..adopted sister. And its easy. You go in there fight until blood is drawn on you. If you and another wolf are the last one standing you fight until one of you gives up or dies. Then the she-wolves get their chance to fight for the right to mate the winner. she murmured with a shrug, glancing over at her sister making a worried sound in her throat.
Thea sighed, squirming as she dropped down to all fours as the change took over, her sinews snapping. She growled, launching herself forward into the throng circling the action, fur pressed against her from all sides. Willem and Aiden had already been knocked out, and a Gabriel was in the midst of a group of strangers completely surrounded. But she wasn't looking for him. Gregor where...she stopped in her tracked, completely frozen. Finn had appeared all of a sudden and jumped into the fighting, pinning his twin to the ground. Finn's fur was drenched in blood, his muzzle buried in Gregor's entrails. Thea wimpered, tucking her tail between her legs letting out a mental scream.

you can tie me down, and bloody me up His brown eyes flashed to Elizabetta when she appeared, ears flicking. His nose twitched, taking in her scent. He had gotten a whiff of her on Thea, once or twice. Rafe Quint, he replied, shifting from paw to paw, watching the fighting. Was that it, maybe? He wanted to fight? Why he was so antsy...well, it seemed like a good enough answer. And as for your instructions. Easy enough, but I only want to show those guys that give me a bad feeling up. I don't want to become alpha or anything.
He glanced back to the fighting, scowling when he saw Aiden had failed. He flinched at Elizabetta's whimper, following her gaze over to Thea, then to her 'cousins', fighting and bloody. Damn, he muttered, jerking forward in reaction, as if he were going to fight, growling to himself and back up again.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl I know who you are. More or less. And you should fight. You could win. Then you and sister could be together with no qualms from Aiden or anyone. she mumbled, glancing at the fighting with a horrified expression. I don't think Aiden's going to notice or care if you go to Thea now. she mumbled, disappearing with barely a paw print left.
Finn's face was horror struck as he stumbled backward away from his brothers body, running away from the entire scene. Rudy snorted. "Knew letting eightteen year olds in was a bad idea." he muttered running a hand through his hair and looking away from the body of one of his sons before chasing after Finn. it seems you've set me running free[/blockquote]

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe gave a grunt, glancing sideways at Elizabetta to watch her go, ears flicking. He shook his head slightly, shaking out his pelt before following the pup, swerving off to the left, paws padding lightly. His nose twitched as he passed Aiden, heading around the group of fighters before stopping a few feet away from Thea.
Rafe's eyes darted to the fighting. He was going to join one way or another, but he wasn't going to dart in there and act hero-ly. He'd give Thea warning of what he was doing. Plus, though Elizabetta said he could win, he doubted he could. He didn't want to lead a pack, he just wanted to, as he had said over and over, show some of those wolves who thought they were tough-guys what the label 'tough-guy' meant. Rafe let out a low whimper, bowing his head, turning to look back at Thea and gain her attention.

you
are the moon, for which i have to howl Thea whimpered, sinking to the ground and covering her face with her paws. She should've realized by this point that this night could not end without a death. The smell of arousal around her had grown and it took all of her effort to not run away. Cubs would be fathered tonight and she hoped her mother didn't get inthe middle of it.
Golden green eyes s slid sideways catching site of chocolate brown fur and a scent she would never forget. Rafe... she whined, crawling on her belly over to him, the crowd so thick around her it was hard to stand up. She glanced over her shoulder at the bloodied mass of fur and barked at the group that had Gabriel surrounded. Her message clear. Her fur stood on end in irritation as she made her way to her mate, standing up fully and wagging her tail slightly. it seems you've set me running free[/blockquote]

you can tie me down, and bloody me up Rafe cocked his head to one side, ears flicking, watching her crawl on her belly. If he were in human form, he probably would have had an eyebrow raised and asked, "Thea, what are you doing?" He inwardly cursed himself, Aiden, and her mom. This wasn't a place for her. He knew she was old enough, he knew she could handle herself...but she looked helpless, scared, worried. Some of these were people she had grown up with her entire life.
Rafe let out a small bark, wagging his tail, hoping to get the message 'It's alright' across to her, though it'd probably be useless. Rafe leaned forward, pressing his nose against hers before stepping towards her, rubbing up against her in a happy, 'My girl, I've missed you', and comforting, 'I'm here, you'll be fine', kind of way. Hey.
